„…The duo of the soprano and the flutist is always one of the spectacular moments of the opera, which the audience eagerly awaits. Flutist Václav Lenc has a beautiful, full tone, the mastered dynamics in his demanding solo part he fully captured the fragility of a broken human soul. On stage, his interplay with LucieKaňková was 100% perfect and the whole scene was highly impressive.
The singers had their parts carefully worked out both technically and expressively. The young soprano Lucie Kaňková is extraordinary talented, she performs on both Czech and foreign opera stages, last year she debuted with great success at the Royal Opera in Liège as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto. At the National Theater in Prague, she already portrays both Gilda and Violetta Valéry, and the audience of the Estates Theater regularly hears her as the Queen of the Night. She has a colorful moving soprano voice with a balanced range – the highs and the middle and lower position are fully produced, it has the necessary lightness to perform coloratura runs. In the demanding part, Lucie sang all the coloraturas perfectly, including very difficult passages in one of the extensive traditional virtuoso flute cadenzas from the time of Adelina Patti and Nellie Melba. The charming singer also impressed with her overall appearance and approach to the role – even in the concert performance, she managed to capture the character of the unhappy Lammermoor bride….“
